Downloading

After clicking the desired "Download Now" link, users should save the download file to a convenient location, such as the desktop. Each download consists of a self-extracting, compressed folder containing several files and sub-folders.

Users should extract the compressed folder by double-clicking the download file and saving the extracted folder where desired. Users of certain file-compression programs may extract the files by right clicking the download file and selecting shortcut options provided by that program. Following installation, users should consider saving this folder for future use.

Please ensure that the Freeware Password Request Form has been submitted.

Installation

If Excel is open, please save and close all files before installation

To initiate program installation, users should identify the installation file associated with the downloaded program, which is located in the root of the extracted folder. Each install file is in the form "Install_???????.xls", where the field "???????" describes the particular program being installed. Users should either double-click the applicable installation file or open the file in Excel. See notes on security settings below. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. At the conclusion of the installation, users will be prompted to close and restart Excel.

Notes on Excel Security Settings - Users must implement appropriate security settings in Excel for installation to proceed effectively:

Excel 2003 & earlier: Set security level to Medium or Low (Tools-Macro-Security) before initiating installation. When opening the installation file, select "Enable Macros", if prompted. The installation will then proceed.

Excel 2007: Default security level is appropriate. When opening the installation file, users will receive the following notification - "Security Warning Macros have been disabled." in the area immediately below the ribbon. Click the adjacent "Options" button and select "Enable this content." The installation will then proceed.

Startup Following Installation

After installing one or more Reservoir Solutions programs, users will notice that Excel loads more slowly, as it loads the Visual Basic modules (VBA) and indexes the templates. Loading speed depends on the system-processor speed, amount of system RAM and version of Excel. Regardless, once Excel is completely loaded, the program will function as it normally does on a given user's system.

Installation of any Reservoir Solutions program, except the Reservoir Solutions Modules, causes the "RSC Engineering" menu to load automatically at startup, as follows:

Excel 2003 & earlier: The RSC Engineering menu will be loaded at the bottom of the sixth menu (Tools menu for standard menus). Users should select the desired Reservoir Solutions program from this menu.

Excel 2007: At startup, Excel 2007 will create an “Add-Ins” tab for the ribbon. The RSC Engineering menu will automatically be placed on the “Menu Commands” icon on the Add-Ins ribbon. Users should select the desired Reservoir Solutions program from this menu.

Excel 2007 File Formats

The new Excel 2007 files conform to the Office Open XML formats, which distinguish “macro enabled” (.xlsm) and “non-macro enabled” files (.xlsx). Most Reservoir Solutions software templates and workbooks contain embedded VBA procedures, so-called “event handlers.” Excel 2007 files should be saved in the macro-enabled (.xlsm) format to avoid stripping those procedures from the files and to retain their designed functionality. This is a non-reversible process. Files saved in the non-macro enabled format must be recreated to restore such procedures. Users may also save their files in the legacy Excel 97-2003 workbook format (.xls), if desired.
