Freeware Download and Installation Instructions
After selecting the desired program to download, users should save the download file to a convenient directory or folder on
his/her local hard drive, preferably a temporary or seldom used location. The download files consist of self-extracting compressed
files containing several files used by the selected program with any version of Excel (Excel 97 or later).
To extract the compressed files, the user should locate the downloaded file in Windows Explorer and double-click the file. The
user then will be prompted to specify a directory or folder to which the extracted files will be copied. The default location is
usually C:\Windows\temp; however, the user may change this location to a more accessible or convenient folder. All of the files
associated with a particular Reservoir Solutions program must be in the same folder at the time of installation.
To proceed with installation, the user should first insure that no more than one "copy" of Excel is open or running. Each set
of extracted files includes an installation file, "Install_???????.xls", where the field "???????" is associated with the particular
program being installed. Users should navigate in Windows Explorer to the location of the extracted files and then double-click the
applicable installation file. This will start the appropriate installation procedure and Excel, if necessary. Simply follow the
on-screen instructions. Users must obtain a password by submitting the Password Request Form located on Ryder Scott’s download page.
Notes:
- 6/4/2004 NOTICE: Reservoir Solutions Software users who have installed Microsoft
Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP-3) have encountered numerous problems
with the functionality of several of the subject programs. Ryder Scott is
investigating the source of these issues, the extent and nature of which are
not known at this time. Frequent users for whom the functionality of the Reservoir
Solutions Software is critical are advised to consider postponing installation
of SP-3 until further notice.
- Users of Excel 2000 or later should check their Excel security settings (Tools-Macros-Security) before attempting to install
Reservoir Solutions Software. The setting must be either medium or low. Otherwise, the installation procedure will fail. If at any point
during the installation a user is prompted by Excel concerning files containing "macros", select "enable macros" to continue the installation.
- A user who runs Excel from a network installation will experience an installation failure unless he/she has write privileges on that
particular network drive. Since files are copied to Excel’s Xlstart directory, the programs will not function properly if the files cannot
be copied to the network drive. . To resolve this issue, please contact your network administrator. He/she can install the program for you,
but this will make all downloaded programs available to all clients running Excel from the same network installation.
- Users may experience a noticeable delay when starting or re-starting Excel after installing the Reservoir Solutions Software, especially
on PC’s with slower processors or hard drives or with limited memory. While this is normal, do not confuse this with reduced speed of operation
or impeded functionality in Excel. Excel will continue to operate normally after startup.
