(A more detailed version of the installation instructions is included in the Download Folder)
If Excel is open, please save and close all files before installation
To initiate program installation, identify the Reservoir Solutions software installation file, RSS_Install_2012.xls, located in the root of the extracted folder. Either double-click the installation file or open the file in Excel (See notes on security settings below). Follow on-screen instructions to install the programs.
During the installation, a “Program Selection” dialogue box will appear on screen. Select individual programs to install or choose the option to install all programs. After installation, users will be prompted to close and restart Excel.
Notes on Excel Security Settings – Users must implement appropriate security settings in Excel for installation to proceed effectively:
Excel 2003 & earlier: Set security level to Medium or Low (Tools-Macro-Security) before initiating installation. When opening the installation file, select “Enable Macros”, if prompted. The installation will then proceed.
Excel 2007: Default security level is appropriate. When opening the installation file, users will receive the following notification, “Security Warning Macros have been disabled,” in the area immediately below the ribbon. Click the adjacent “Options” button and then select “Enable this content.” Installation will then proceed.
Excel 2010: Default security level is appropriate. When opening the installation file, users will receive the following notification, “Security Warning Macros have been disabled,” in the area immediately below the ribbon. Click the adjacent “Enable Content” button and the installation will then proceed.
Startup Following Installation
After installing one or more Reservoir Solutions programs, Excel will load more slowly, as it loads the Visual Basic modules (VBA) and indexes the templates. Loading speed depends on system-processor speed, amount of system RAM and version of Excel. Regardless, once Excel is completely loaded, it will function as it normally does.
Installation of any Reservoir Solutions program, except the Reservoir Solutions Modules, causes the RSC Engineering menu to load automatically at startup as follows:
Excel 2003 & earlier: The RSC Engineering menu will be loaded at the bottom of the sixth menu (Tools menu for standard menus). Select the desired Reservoir Solutions program from this menu.
Excel 2007/2010: At startup, Excel 2007/2010 will automatically create an “Add-Ins” tab for the ribbon. The RSC Engineering menu will automatically be placed on the “Menu Commands” icon on the Add-Ins ribbon. Select the desired Reservoir Solutions program from this menu.
Note: If the RSC Engineering menu is not on the Add-Ins tab, users may have to change settings in the “Trust Center” in certain circumstances as follows:
Excel 2007: To access the Trust Center, click the Microsoft Office Button-Excel Options-Trust Center-Trust Center Settings-Macro Settings. Select the check box adjacent to “Trust access to the VBA project object model” to enable access.Excel 2010: to access the Trust Center, click the File-Options-Trust Center-Trust Center Settings-Macro Settings. Select the check box adjacent to “Trust access to the VBA project object model” to enable access. After changing the settings, close and restart Excel.
Excel 2007/2010 File Formats
The new Excel 2007/2010 files conform to the Office Open XML formats, which distinguish “macro enabled” (.xlsm) and “non-macro enabled” files (.xlsx). Most Reservoir Solutions software templates and workbooks contain embedded VBA procedures. Excel 2007/2010 files should be saved in the macro-enabled (.xlsm) format to avoid stripping those procedures from the files and to retain their designed functionality. This is an irreversible process. Files saved in the non-macro enabled format must be recreated to restore such procedures. Users may also save their files in the legacy Excel 97-2003 workbook format (.xls), if desired.
Note: Because of inconsistencies between the Excel 2007 and 2010 versions, if users try to insert one of the program templates into the active workbook open in Excel, which is in .xlsx workbook format, the Reservoir Solutions software program will not allow it. Instead the user will be prompted to either first save the active workbook in macro-enabled format (.xlsm) or to open the template as a new workbook. That precludes the file corruption mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
Uninstalling Reservoir Solutions Software
Users may uninstall all reservoir solutions software by re-opening the installation file, and then proceeding through the installation procedure to the Program Selection dialogue box providing options for programs to be installed. To uninstall all programs, insure that all check boxes are blank. Then click the “Install” button. This will cause all program files to be uninstalled and deleted.
